It doesn't help that lately I've been a bit too busy to sit down and be thorough about it.

      Servo surgery....
I went through all my left-over servo parts, selected the best motor, potentiometer, and gears to rebuild one good servo.
Tested, re-assembled, installed in 450, run back and forth at full collective/cyclic sweep for 10 minutes.
No jitter, not running hot, seems to be working fine. This will do till I decide which servos to order next. IMG_20160320_010516689.jpg

Out of those three motors I tested, one was smooth at 0.027A draw, one sounded a bit rough at 0.029, and one was drawing 1.7A free running with no load... It got hot quick!
Waiting for wind to let up.... its been steady at around 50 Kph last few days.

Right.... I tried that awhile back with my Nano. It did remarkably well, where the the 120sr was like trying to fly a tissue in a typhoon. :p
Alas, the Nano just doesn't interest me now that I have a 450.
I can handle 450 in the wind, but 50 kph is a bit much.

yep... no doubt the wind has a big effect. One thing though, once you get to the stage where you can up the head speed, the wind has less effect for some reason. IE i seem to be able to fly my gob380 when other people are hesitant to fly their 700s. Power to weight helps considerably.

High wind doesn't really bother me flying....... Getting tipped during lift-off or landing is my concern. I've come close a few times.

If you don't fly in wind, you'll hardly ever fly.. but start at lower winds and work your way up. A good practice is always fly with the wind to your back, that way if the wind gets under the disk, you won't end up eating your heli

I usually fly side on with Heli head into wind.... so I'm not directly behind it.

YAY, step in the right direction @Beaver!. Now your flying is improving you wont have to worry so much about trashing due to pilot error. Its a catch 22 situation, sometimes cheaper parts can actually cost you more due to failure and as you become a more proficient pilot, the chances of mechanical/electrical error increase due to more air time. There is no guarantee that more expensive servos will eliminate all servo problems but the statistical confidence is significantly higher . You normally dont have the problems you have had when you use better quality servos. I rarely expect any issues from servos even after hundreds and hundreds of flights of thrashing around. I normally use BK servos at the moment but I also (used) to like mks-ds 95s for my mini servos. For larger servos i like the higher quality futaba..

      I went for these:
      http://hitecrcd.com/products/servos...s-65hb-mighty-karbonite-feather-servo/product
.....as is usually the case, the LHS didn't have those in MG... they had 2 of one kind and two of another... No full sets of 3 but the HS-65hb and some standard plastic geared HiTec and Futaba, so I took a chance on the "Karbonite" gears, which are supposed to be nearly as good and better than standard plastic gears. If I have to, I can get MG gears later.

Yeah I've been using the analog 65MG, they are really good, only bad thing is make sure the case is not pinching the gears, as they would malfunction. This is probably why most people move on to metal case servos or prefer it even.

...... anyway, I'll probably get started with the servo swaps tonight. Its never a quick process, as I usually try to improve on the previous routings of servo leads while Im at it. I might swap the entire main frame with the new spare I have. The original one is still servicable even after 5 or 6 nasty crashes, but is beginning to show signs of wear and tear.
I think I'll kick the balls out a notch or two further out on the servo arms than what I had before on the TGY servos, if the new arms are solid enough.

I haven't finished reprogramming the setup yet, and I already like these new servos. The seen to run much smoother than the cheap TGYs. I had problems finding the digital/analog toggle in the Vstabi. I hadn't needed to use it before. The Hitecs did not like the digital signal at all! Now all I have to do is finalize the trims and put blades on.
Blades....... Naturally, the only set of 325mm blades I could find anywhere in this city---> WOOD. They will suffice until I can get some CF ordered. :p
