Very true guys... You probably would not notice the difference in flight characteristics until you start to really throw it around anyway.

I check here often also: http://www.rcgroups.com/aircraft-electric-helis-fs-w-44/
You can always get the training gear that locks onto the bottom of the Heli. It's like "bicycle training wheels" for a Heli...... or get something small and crash resistant to learn on like a Nano CPx or similar small "collective pitch" Heli.

I've been watching the Heligods Youtube SIM Tutorial videos, religiously. I've also been hitting the SIM religiously. I just hope all this SIM training pays off and hopefully I won't need any training wheels. Here's hoping:( and praying it will all go well. I gotta start this build, i got the cyclic servos Emax ES09MD. I need to check inside of them for grease and see if everything is ok and working well. I'll post some pics hopefully later on today.

I'm following a similar setup to yours, was trying to do it on the cheap. Ordered the same as yours but a blue one. It was on special at the time(25% off). Hoping to get it in the mail sometime this week. It turns out buying part by part is costing a bit more, may be I should of gone with the kit.

I just opened up a one of the cyclic servos, and I thought it was all metal gears as it said, but it turns out one of them(small one) underneath all the gears, it's plastic. Also there doesn't seem to be any grease/lubricant, perhaps they dried up? I applied some lithium grease in the bearings and metal gears, I will be doing this to all of the servos. Going to test them hopefully sometime this week(if all goes well) to see if they work well @ 6V. Hope they don't burn out. That small plastic gear worries me a bit, as I think that will be the weak point of this servo on an event of a crash. I think the cheap price for the set of these servos made me buy them. But after these I'll try something else.

Beaver, have you tried the ZenRG lipos? Just wondering if they are any good. I was looking at the ZenRC website, and I wonder how do they compare to pulse lipos?

Find a club or someone who can fly. They can check your setup, give you great tips and save you a lot of heartache. Get a sim as well, practise heaps on the sim before you have a crack IRL. Ask on forums like this, and have fun. Welcome to an absorbing addiction my friend @maingeer .

I haven't tried the ZenRC lipos.
On the servos, a plastic gear wont hurt as long as its close to the motor on the high end of the reduction gears, the metal gears are more important close to the output shaft where all the torque is.

And spaz balls are your friend when learning, they lower the CG taming the heli and will allow it to land skidding (slightly) to stop tip overs - which will smoke your blades (among other bits)

      Spaz balls! Lmao! :D
Your servos should work fine. Full metal geared servos aren't indestructible as I found out, the one I killed was the gear next to the output sector gear. The smaller gears were okay.
Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

It wasn't so much about the money that I avoided the combo kit.
The servos, FBL, and ESC from CopterX was $79, but didn't see any specs on the servos. Buying separate, I was able to get "known" components with full disclosure of specifications so I knew for sure what I was getting. Combo servos might have been plastic gears. I especially liked the idea of this Kbar and being able to use PC or smartphone to setup and program. CopterX FBL is limited to card I think. I think the CopterX ESC was only 30A, I ended up with a good Align 45A. Always go for genuine Align replacement parts if you can find a good deal on them, especially gears, belts, bearings, shafts, etc.

Sorry guys been held up with other commitments, not sure if I will find the time to finish this project of mine. Yeah all parts have been ordered most of them are non align. I did get one part align which is the dfc dampers. I'll try to see if i can put a bit of time on this budget 450. I still need to test the cyclic servos and check the tail servo. The ebay seller sent me the wrong tail servo KST DS515mg, I oredered the KST DS215MG. It's a bit too big, but I will see how I can accommodate this on my 450.

I got most of the stuff now to at least start the build, waiting for the others to arrive hopefully sometime this week

      So anyway...
I ordered another set of cyclic servos today, TGY MG90s Digitals same as before. I figured it best to just replace all of them and be done with it.
The ones I'm using now work, but another one (not the one I repaired) has developed a slight jitter since the last hard crash last week. It went in pretty hard..... I'm amazed these cheap servos survived as well as they did! If I can avoid the crashing, they should last longer. :p

I compared the specs of your servos to the ones I'm using. They seem to be close to the same specs. I'm not sure running them at 6 volts is such a good idea, they will probably last longer at 5v. The difference in speed is negligable. I recently bumped up to 6v and my servos seem to be running a bit warmer than they should.
The first batch of these TGY MG90s (Tower Pro with Turnigy stickers) are either older versions or counterfeit because the ones I just ordered from Hobby King are listed as having coreless motors. The motor pictured below that I just replaced a few days ago is NOT a coreless motor. IMG_20160202_175630.jpg I can't wait to get the new servos so I can compare old against new. Either way, the old ones have to go away because they are no longer reliable after those 2 hard crashes I've had.

Oh thanks for the tip. Saves me from trying 6V on my servos. I'll set them at 5V.

as for your servos do you think they could be the cause of your crash???
