Just remember you'll need 7 channels if you ever decide to go internal combustion

I'm a cheapo n i use a Devo10, anything u can think off in channel assignments n more. There was a 'tx to rule them all' thread on rcg some time back n Deviation was ruffling Spektrum n Futaba fan boys' feathers. It's not everyone's cup of tea coz its not ur conventional type of programming menus n takes some time n effort to learn but it's really powerful. I've it running all my models from very small hubsan toy to the Goblin.

Yeah, I've read a few things about those.... Devo-7/10 and Deviation. I've also seen things about Turnigy 9X and using a DSM2 module from (of all things) an HP6DSM to convert to Spektrum compatibility, and now I hear Hobby King sells a DSM2/X module for it now. There are plenty of options to explore.

If I take it easy with the 450 so I don't have to keep buying parts, I could probably raise the money to get a decent radio.

Nah not gonna happen, this like most hobbies is a money pit. So ur best option is to either get more gigs or sell ur soul to the devil for all the heli supplies u need.

      Anyway.....
The 450 is back to normal, configured back to the DX4e. I can use the HP6 (which is really only 5 channels where the DX4e is actually 6 channel) for sim.

      Tx rebuild:
Swapping out the new and better quality gimbals and switches from the HP6 to the DX4e.

      Ah! DX4e renewed.
The gimbals and paddle switches were exact fit aside from some soldering. All trims calibrated to zero per Vstabi real-time Tx monitor. All old parts installed to HP6 for sim use if needed.
That concludes this weeks episode of "Pimp my Tx". :D WP_20160415_003.jpg WP_20160415_002.jpg

I changed the entire assemblies. The DX4e pots were still good, but the sticks were getting sloppy around center position. It feels like a new Tx now. :D

So last flight in the shop today (it was too windy outside), I noticed the elevator servo developing a nasty jitter.... so I landed and powered down.
I pulled the servo, as it's easy to get at, and went to open it up expecting to find a sloppy gear or loose countershaft or something, but it ended up being a simple fix. Apparently, I didn't notice that the ball-bearing was missing from the output sector gear. Duh!
Then I noticed another servo had developed some slop between the sector gear and bearing, so I changed those out with good ones.
Test flight good.... no jitter. :D

So far.... but I haven't been able to let the loose out in the open. It's been entirely too windy last few days.

I missed your post, is your Devo10 flashed for DSMX?

Not sure if it's true some people have flashed a Devo 7e to Range mod and native DSMX/DSM2 support? Is that possible?? $58 Brand new free shipping. Not bad if it's true???

Yeah, I'm cheapo too. I don't mind modding if it saves me money, so a Devo 7/10 or one of those Turnigy 9X I would consider, provided the firmware flash isn't too much of a pain in the butt. I would snatch the DSM2 module out of that HP6DSM in a heartbeat and install it in a new radio.

If it functions correctly as in no lag or delay feel and everything works well(especially range) and if the mod is not too complicated, then it's a good deal.

We'll see what joe have to say about them

The Deviation firmware already supports dsm/dsmx protocols without any additional modules, I've 2 on dsmx n 1 on dsm. I fly within 200m range without any glitches n problems but others have tried much further with no problem. I use LemonRX sats but have had problems binding with Hobbyking's orangeRx sats. Actually bound ok just the channels seemed somewhat screwed.

I've a module soldered in to handle Hisky protocol for my micro n another for my son's hubsan toy. Can be intimidating at first but once u read up on it then its not much different than setting up ur laptop or smart phone. Lots of info out there n others have paved the way.
